Winter is upon us, putting me as a newly stay-at-home dad in a bit of a predicament looking for fun, affordable, and unique indoor activities to let my boys (ages 3 and 1) burn off their boundless energy. So, as you can imagine I was extremely excited today when I learned about a great place called World of Wheels in Superior!
Back before everyone had computers in their pockets, we had to entertain ourselves by doing, you know, things. Activities and the like. One of the many favorite memories of my childhood was when as a kid I’d go to a roller skating rink an hour away from our rural Minnesota home. My friends, siblings and I always had fun there.
My boys may not yet be at the ideal age for maximum roller skating fun, but they are old enough to join me for some good family fun at World of Wheels. And with the weather turning it seems like the perfect place to head. A fully remodeled indoor facility featuring glow in the dark paints, neon lights, and a service counter that rents skates for kids, adults and even children as small as 3 years old, this place is right up our alley. With an arcade and snacks café, and DJ playing family friendly music, my family and I will surely be entertained during our time skating at World of Wheels.
Toddlers and even adults, may have a hard time acclimating to skating, but there is a great option for younger kids and people who are mobility challenged called the Skate Mate, which costs $4 to rent at World of Wheels and helps keep you upright on your skates! I won’t be strapping pillows to the boy’s behinds, but I may be bringing bike helmets for them -just to be on the safe side of those beginner falls.
The World of Wheels website lists a number of great deals such as the Kids Skate Free program, which gives you one free skate pass per kid, per week. All you have to do is go to website, select Wisconsin and sign up under World of Wheels! Many great events appear to be hosted at W.O.W. as well. Coming up they are hosting School’s out Skating Wednesday November 23rd and again Friday, November 25th from 1-4pm for only $6 per person plus skate rentals (Which are only $2), Christian Music skates on the first and third Mondays of every month, and Skate your Turkey Off Half Nighter takes place on Friday the 25th from 6:30pm-12:00am!
If you’re looking for a night out with friends or your loved one, without the kids, there’s good news for you too! From 7:30 to 10pm on Wednesday nights they have an adults only night! $7+ skate rental, $6+ skate rental with a college ID.
There are also birthday party packages that are sure to be a hit with the onsite arcade, popcorn, pizza, and gift counter.
The World of Wheels hours fluctuate from week to week so check out their website for more information on hours as well as information on their Birthday Party packages. Keep in mind no one can be on the skating rink without skates on, and for safety reasons you can’t carry a child while you’re wearing skates, so everyone will have to bring skates or rent a pair of traditional skates, inline (roller blades), or Velcro skates for the younger kids for $2.
